Long Island Jet Charter arranges passenger charter to and from Long Island in every size of aircraft, from a turboprop for a summer weekend in the Hamptons to a VIP airliner for a team or a company group. The right category for your trip comes down to four things: how far you are going, how many people are traveling, how much baggage is coming, and the airports at both ends.
Aircraft Categories
- Helicopters, where the route and conditions suit one
- Piston aircraft for the shortest regional trips
- Turboprops for the East End, New England and the Mid-Atlantic
- Very light jets for a small group on a shorter trip
- Light jets for Boston, Washington, Chicago and Atlanta
- Super light jets for a little more cabin and range
- Midsize jets for Florida, the Bahamas and Texas
- Super midsize jets for Denver and the West Coast
- Heavy jets for larger groups over long distances
- Long range jets for London, Paris and other long trips
- VIP airliners for groups that outgrow a heavy jet
Each category page lists the aircraft we arrange in it, with cabin, range and seating for each type.
Choosing a Category for Your Trip
Many Long Island trips are short, such as a summer weekend in the Hamptons or a business flight to Boston or Washington, and a turboprop or a light jet is usually where we start. Families heading to Florida for the winter often need a light or midsize jet, while the West Coast and Europe call for more range. Groups are common too, from family trips at the holidays to company teams, so tell us the passenger count and the baggage, including golf bags and beach gear, at the start.
Once the group runs past nineteen passengers, the trip calls for an airliner-size aircraft and no longer falls under FAR Part 135, the FAA’s rules for on-demand, for-hire charter. Those flights operate under FAR Part 121 or a foreign equivalent, which generally carries stricter crew and operating requirements than both Part 91 and Part 135.
The airport matters as well. Republic in East Farmingdale and MacArthur in Ronkonkoma handle the widest range of trips from western and central Long Island. For the Hamptons, East Hampton suits light and midsize aircraft better than the largest jets, so for bigger aircraft we often use Gabreski in Westhampton Beach instead, and Montauk takes jets only with the airport’s prior permission. Whether a particular aircraft can use a particular Long Island airport on your date is the operator’s call for that aircraft, its weight and the day’s conditions, and your advisor will confirm it before anything is booked.
Vetting Behind Every Trip
Every operator, aircraft, and crew goes through our internal due diligence before we present any options. Our internal standards meet or exceed what the FAA requires:
- FAR Part 135 charter operators for traditional private aircraft, or FAR Part 121 for airliner-size and group trips (or the foreign equivalent on international legs)
- Operator subscription to Wyvern and ARGUS reviewed where the operator participates.
- Pilot experience and operator incident history reviewed before we recommend an aircraft.
- Fewer than 60 brokers worldwide hold Premium Wyvern Broker Member status, and Air Charter Advisors is one of them.
